Hope in Healing through Faith in Jesus

Let us Pray to the Great Physician

You, Lord are the great physician. In this meditation, I will pray for hope and trust in You to heal me physically, mentally, and spiritually. Come Holy Spirit and give me the grace to pray these prayers and meditate on the Word of God so that I might have hope in healing through faith in Jesus Christ and the power of His Precious Blood. Spirit of God, come and enlighten my mind, penetrate my heart, and give me the grace to speak with faith the mysteries of Your love and mercy for a humble sinner like me. I have hope in healing of my body, my mind, my soul, and my spirit according to Your holy will, Lord. AMEN.

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity, One God,

I come before You humbly asking You for mercy on me.

Heavenly Father, look at me through the merits of your Son, Jesus, who shed His Blood so that I might be in union with You. You see all that keeps me broken and alone. You know all my sins, my faults, my deep regrets.  Please God help me have sorrow for my sins and the many ways I have neglected to love You as you deserve.

Please touch me with your divine light of love so that I might have healing in my body, my mind, my soul and spirit. It is through your grace that I am able to have faith, and I humbly ask for an increase in it right now.

Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice so that I may know You and feel Your Spirit within me. I have hope in healing through your love and mercy.

AMEN.

[Jesus said] “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

Healing my Body, a Meditation

Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis (Book II Chapter XI)

Holy Trinity, One God – you are pure love, and your mercy endures forever. I am made in Your image and likeness. My heart beats because You will it. I have breath because You give me life by Your mercy. Not a single breath I have ever breathed has been made by my own power. I have hope in healing through Your love and mercy.

Many times in my life You had the power to condemn my soul to hell forever. Yet You give me the grace of repentance despite all my many offenses and transgressions. Your love is incomprehensible. I do not deserve so great a love, yet You have given it to me, even before I knew You. Always You accompany me, even in my darkest hour. Lord, I have hope in healing by Your love and mercy.

Jesus, my body needs healing, and this cross is hard for me to bear. I feel abandoned by You. Where are You in my suffering? Are you calling me to this suffering for the sake of my soul?

Thomas a Kempis writes, “JESUS has always many who love His heavenly kingdom, but few who bear His cross. He has many who desire consolation, but few who care for trial. He finds many to share His table, but few to take part in His fasting. All desire to be happy with Him; few wish to suffer anything for Him. Many follow Him to the breaking of bread, but few to the drinking of the chalice of His passion. Many revere His miracles; few approach the shame of the Cross. Many love Him as long as they encounter no hardship; many praise and bless Him as long as they receive some comfort from Him.”

Forgive me, Jesus, for being weak and unwilling to suffer this trial for the love of You. Help me to understand this cross and how I can carry it for Your Kingdom. Purify my heart, give me greater hope in healing during this trial.

Thomas a Kempis concludes, “But if Jesus hides Himself and leaves them for a while, they fall either into complaints or into deep dejection. Those, on the contrary, who love Him for His own sake and not for any comfort of their own, bless Him in all trial and anguish of heart as well as in the bliss of consolation. Even if He should never give them consolation, yet they would continue to praise Him and wish always to give Him thanks. What power there is in pure love for Jesus — love that is flee from all self-interest and self-love!”

Jesus, I praise and glorify Your holy Name. I give you thanks and praise for all the love and mercy You have shown me. I recognize my nothingness and my need to be grafted to You. It is through You that I can have hope in healing of body, mind, soul, and spirit. I praise You in my pain and I accept this silence with joyful hope. I surrender the infirmities of my body to Your great and divine will for my life. I accept with humility and obedience the healing You desire to give me for the sake of my eternal salvation. For nothing will separate me from the love of God.

Prayer for Healing my Body

a prayer of Padre Pio

Heavenly Father,

I trust in Your power and grace that sustain and restore me. Loving Father, touch me now with Your healing hands, for I believe that Your will is for me to be well in mind, body, soul and spirit. Cover me with the Most Precious Blood of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, from the top of my head to the soles of my feet.

AMEN.

Thus says the LORD: Cursed is the man who trusts in human beings, who makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the LORD. He is like a barren bush in the wasteland that enjoys no change of season, But stands in lava beds in the wilderness, a land, salty and uninhabited. Blessed are those who trust in the LORD; the LORD will be their trust. They are like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: It does not fear heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress but still produces fruit. More tortuous than anything is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it? I, the LORD, explore the mind and test the heart, Giving to all according to their ways, according to the fruit of their deeds.

Healing My Mind, a Meditation

Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis (Book II Chapter IV)

Is my heart right with You, Lord?

Thomas a Kempis writes, “A MAN is raised up from the earth by two wings — simplicity and purity. There must be simplicity in his intention and purity in his desires. Simplicity leads to God, purity embraces and enjoys Him. If your heart is free from ill-ordered affection, no good deed will be difficult for you. If you aim at and seek after nothing but the pleasure of God and the welfare of your neighbor, you will enjoy freedom within.”

Lord, what is the source of anxiety in my mind? Show me how impure my mind is and cleanse me of attachments that cause me to lack purity of intention and desires. My hope in healing must include a cleansing of my heart and the anxieties of my mind. Take away the darkness of my thoughts and the desires of my heart that offend You.

Thomas a Kempis continues, “If your heart were right, then every created thing would be a mirror of life for you and a book of holy teaching, for there is no creature so small and worthless that it does not show forth the goodness of God. If inwardly you were good and pure, you would see all things clearly and understand them rightly, for a pure heart penetrates to heaven and hell, and as a man is within, so he judges what is without.”

Jesus have mercy on me and on the evil in my heart. Please Lord deliver me from evil thoughts that pervade my mind and give me purity of desire. You alone are my hope in healing. Jesus I trust in You.

Thomas a Kempis concludes, “If there be joy in the world, the pure of heart certainly possess it; and if there be anguish and affliction anywhere, an evil conscience knows it too well. As iron cast into fire loses its rust and becomes glowing white, so he who turns completely to God is stripped of his sluggishness and changed into a new man. When a man begins to grow lax, he fears a little toil and welcomes external comfort, but when he begins perfectly to conquer himself and to walk bravely in the ways of God, then he thinks those things less difficult which he thought so hard before.”

Jesus, please look upon me with love and mercy and grant me the grace to be meek and humble of heart so that I might find your yoke easy and my burden light. All my hope in healing is through Your divine Sacred Heart.

"I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me? It hurts you to kick against the goads.' And I said, 'Who are you, Lord?' And the Lord said, 'I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand upon your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you to serve and bear witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, delivering you from the people and from the Gentiles - to whom I send you to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'"

Healing my Soul, A Meditation

My sin hurts You, Lord. When I sin I kick against the goads. These tools the plowman uses to guide his oxen as they plow his field. Jesus, you tell me I am kicking against the conviction of my own heart. I’m kicking against the thing that’s moving me toward union with You.

I sin like Paul did when He did not know You. But I know You.

Jesus, Your words are so piercing, so raw, so full of truth. Yet You come to me with such love that I just cannot resist You. I am drawn to You. Jesus, You are the Eternal Word – because You speak to the heart of the matter and reveal to me what separates me from You.

In Acts 27 and 28 I learn that King Agrippa was compelled by Paul’s testimony of Christ. King Agrippa put Paul on a prisoner ship under the watch of a centurion named Julius.

Here am I, kneeling before You, Jesus, in the Blessed Sacrament. I am afraid of failing You and I know I have a mission that You have set before me. In this raw moment You come to me and show me how You came into the life of Saul.

He was by every human standard the last person anyone would think You would commission to preach the Gospel, and yet You did. You commissioned him and in so doing, you gave him a new name, Paul

The love of God is greater than power. I remember this lesson

I consent to the divine will of God. I trust in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. I commit my body, mind, soul and spirit to the Lord Jesus Christ. I repent of all my sins that separate me from this union, and I resolve myself to begin the work You have given me.

In Acts 27 and 28, the prison ship enters into a deadly storm. It lasts 2 weeks. Everyone on board believed they would die in this storm. But an angel appears to Paul and promises him that by God’s holy will none would perish as long as they remained on the ship and didn’t jump overboard.

As I am reading these chapters Your Holy Spirit is alive in my soul telling me, pointing out to me, the connections between Paul’s storm and the storm today. Jesus, You are calling me. You are inviting me. I say, yes, Lord. Send me.

While these men were still in the midst of the storm on this perilous voyage fearing death, what does Paul do? Paul urges them to take some food. As I am reading this, the Holy Spirit is telling me this is a metaphor for the Eucharist.

“As day was about to dawn, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, ‘Today is the fourteenth day that you have continued in suspense and without food, having taken nothing. Therefore I urge you to take some food; it will give you strength, since not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you.’ And when he had said this, he took bread, and giving thanks to God in the presence of all, he broke it and began to eat. Then they all were encouraged and ate some food themselves.”

In chapter 28, after the ship safely hits a sandbar and all 276 crew and prisoners’ lives were saved as Paul had prophesied, he is threatened by an attack from a deadly snake that has constricted his arm. In front of an island of pagans and a crew of pagan sailors, Paul boldly shakes the snake off his arm and is spared.

Lord, what is this snake is a symbol of? Yes, Lord, I see. It is the Evil One.

Paul’s miracle with the snake led to many miraculous healings of the island’s residents. In their gratitude, they showered the shipwrecked crew with gifts and gave them a new ship to set sail in.

This is what will happen when I live for You and Your holy will in my life. Inconceivable things will happen by Your grace.

I must have faith in Jesus, right now. Jesus, my hope in healing is strengthened by Your Word. I have deep faith that with You, through You, and in You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, I can come to the Father and be saved, and my body, mind, and soul will all be healed.

Early in the morning, as they were walking along, they saw the fig tree withered to its roots. Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” Jesus said to them in reply, “Have faith in God. Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your transgressions.”

Healing my Spirit, A Meditation

Humility of Heart by Father Cajetan Mary da Bergamo (Neighbor 125,126)

I cannot have hope in healing unless I am pure of heart. I cannot have faith in Jesus to heal me unless I am willing to forgive my neighbor. Jesus, I forgive. Help my unforgiveness and give me purity of heart so that healing my spirit will be possible.

Fr Cajetan asks, “Do you take offense easily, considering yourself injured by every little adverse word, every slight that you receive from others, becoming angry and irritated, nourishing aversion and rancour, demanding humble apologies and satisfaction, and showing yourself unforgiving, irreconcilable towards them: fearing to lose your dignity, if you consented to make peace like a good Christian? If such be the case, where is your humility, either of knowledge or affection, which is necessary for your salvation?”

Jesus, I submit myself to Your holy will and I reject any evil passion in my soul that prevents me from loving my neighbor who has offended me and committed evil against me. I forgive so that I might humbly ask You to forgive me for the evil I have done to You.

Fr Cajetan continues, “The humble man not only is not angry with those who offend him, but loves them and gives them back good for evil. Yes, indeed it is so, because he looks upon them as instruments of the mercy and justice of God, and he is also persuaded that his sins and ingratitude towards the divine Goodness deserve far worse punishment. And you?”

Yes, me too, Jesus. I pray for those who persecute me and do evil to me. I forgive them their trespasses.

Fr. Cajetan concludes, “The humble man, when he hears that people are speaking ill of him, is not disturbed, but quietly learns to amend his ways, even though he may not have committed the faults of which he has been accused. He does not lament, as if he were persecuted: he does not say that those who speak thus of him are malignant and jealous rivals; but he believes that they know him better than he knows himself. Do you do this?

Yes, Jesus, I am not above reproach. I must amend my ways so that I may grow to imitate You in how I care for my body, my mind, my soul, and my spirit.

I love You, Jesus.

AMEN.
