The binding prayer in Jesus’ Name against evil spirits and the binding prayer of diabolic oppression both have Biblical roots in the book of Tobit. In chapter three Sarah prayed a lamenting prayer of despair to God in which she expressed her desire to die. God answered her prayer through sending the Archangel Raphael to bind the demon Asmodeus who was antagonizing her and blinding Tobit’s judgement.
We read in Tobit 3:16-17: “At that very time, the prayer of both of them was heard in the glorious presence of God. Raphael was sent to heal them both: to remove the white scales from Tobit’s eyes, so that he might again see with his own eyes God’s light; and to give Sarah, the daughter of Raguel, as a wife to Tobiah, the son of Tobit, and to rid her of the wicked demon Asmodeus.”
Binding Prayers and the Role of Demons
We also learn from the Church about the role of demons and the power of God to deliver us from evil.
The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God's reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries - of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but "we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him."
Ask, Don’t Command
Binding prayers by the laity should not command evil spirits to depart, but rather, the laity should ASK Jesus to bind the evil spirits that are afflicting them. This is the proper form for a binding prayer.
Binding Prayer in Jesus Name

In the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and God,
Jesus, I ask You to render all spirits impotent, paralyzed and ineffective in attempting to take revenge against me, my family, my friends, my community, and those who pray for me and my family.
I ask You to bind all evil spirits, all powers of the air, the water, the ground, the fire, under ground, or wherever they exercise their powers, any satanic forces in nature and any and all emissaries of the satanic headquarters.
I ask You to bind by Thy Precious Blood all of the attributes, aspects and characteristics, interactions, communications and deceitful games of the evil spirits.
I ask You to break any and all bonds, ties, and attachments in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Because demons are legalistic, this next Catholic binding prayer should only be said by a baptized Catholic in a state of sanctifying grace. The authority given to humans to bind evil spirits is most effective when we have been baptized and are not currently in mortal sin. This means that we have confessed the evil we have done to a priest in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We need to confess whatever sins we have committed that opened the door to the demonic in the first place.
If these conditions are not met and you attempt to bind demons by your own authority, you may experience demonic retaliation. In other words, if you are still in the devil’s camp, in slavery to the same sin that caused the demonic oppression in the first place, you do not have the authority to command them to leave.
Therefore, your prayer should ask God to bind the demons on your behalf, and your actions should be an effort to take steps to remove the things in your life that caused the demonic activity in the first place. This may include breaking ties and renouncing evil, removing occult materials from your possession, and getting rid of things that led you into sin in the first place.
Look at it this way, as stated in the Catechism, God may be allowing your demonic oppression as a means of your sanctification and growth in holiness. The very oppression that is tormenting you today could be the means of your deliverance from evil and ultimate salvation in Christ.
Binding Prayer Against Diabolic Oppression
In the name of Jesus Christ and His Precious Blood,
By the authority given to me by the natural law and by You giving these things; rights to me, I claim authority, rights and power over (name the people/things under diabolic oppression in your life) and anything else that pertains to this diabolic oppression.
By the merits of The Sacred Wounds of Jesus Christ, I reclaim the rights, powers and authority over anything which I may have lost or conceded to any demon and I ask You to remove any demon’s ability to influence or affect anything in my life.
God the Father, humiliate the demons that have sought to steal Your glory from You by oppressing Your creatures. We beseech You to show Your great glory and power over them and Your great generosity to me, Your unworthy child, by answering all that I have asked of You.
I bind all demons of oppression, in the name of Jesus, by the power of the Most Precious Blood, the power of the humility with which Christ suffered His wounds, and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Virgin Most Powerful, Saint Michael the Archangel, the blessed Apostles, Peter and Paul, and all the saints, and I command you to leave and go to the foot of the Holy Cross to receive your sentence, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

In Addition to Praying Binding Prayers
The most effective way to rid yourself of demonic oppression and evil spirits is to surrender your life completely to Christ and make every effort to grow in virtue. Demons are only creatures and can only do as much as God permits. They cannot make you commit an act of evil without your consent.
You begin by praying binding prayers against evil spirits in Jesus’ Name, but don’t stop there. Also practice true discipleship in the faith, replacing sinful habits with holy ones. When you do these things you will be freed from demonic oppression that is afflicting you right now.
After praying binding prayers against evil spirits, and also developing daily prayer habits that grow your relationship with Christ, you will be delivered from evil. Do your best to abstain from future grave sins. If you are not sure what sins are grave, look at our Confession Guide to learn more.

After listening to one interview of Fr. Chad R. I believe I have diabolic possession. Please pray for me. I want to be set free and my siblings
Merry Christmas, Betty. Fr. Ripperger also says that a good disciplined prayer schedule does much to help people overcome diabolical influences. Possession is very rare. As you work through this spiritual warfare try to establish a prayer schedule. Fr. Ripperger says that his staff requests all those suffering from diabolical attacks pray the Angelus at 6 am, noon, and 6 pm every day. You can try this. They say that in many cases when the suffering soul incorporates a strict prayer schedule many of the diabolical issues wane without the need for a formal session.
If you can make weekly confessions, or monthly confessions at a minimum, this is also a very powerful tool against evil. It is said that a sacramental confession is more powerful than an exorcism. Daily communion is most ideal, but if you cannot, do the daily Mass readings using an app like the Magnificat. You can also start your day with prayers of spiritual protection such as the Holy Rosary and the Divine Mercy (which is very powerful and takes only 7 minutes.) Visit Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration. For many the grace received by doing this is immeasurable. God loves you and your siblings deeply. Any soul in need of grace who asks will receive it. I promise you this.
Heavenly Father, I come before you now asking for deliverance for Betty and her siblings. Your Son Jesus Christ shed His Precious Blood as a ransom for sinners. Please God, have mercy on Betty in her time of need. We plead the Precious Blood of Jesus over Betty’s body, mind, and soul, over her past memories, over the sins she may have committed that have lead to this diabolical problem, over the sins of her family members that may have caused this diabolical problem, and her current household. Jesus, protect Betty from the power of the evil spirits, restore her body, mind, and soul. Give her the grace she needs for a full reconciliation and restoration in relationship to You. Touch her heart right now and give her the grace to grow in virtue and holiness. Give her the gift of a genuine confession to help her overcome habitual sins and the temptation to sin. Take away anything that separates her from union with You. Fill her with the Holy Spirit so that she might grow in the gifts and fruits necessary to overcome evil in her home and within her family relationships. We ask all this through the Power of the Precious Blood of Jesus and through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, and in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you for these prayers to help me stay closer to JESUS in the blessed sacrament. For a while I have been given DIVINE grace and been given the grace to tell the evil around me, to go away. My mind is closed to the world, flesh and the devil. Thank you. AMEN
Thank you so much for all these prayers and information. I have had for 3 yrs unclean spirits that take the form of cats on me every night. It feels just like a cat, but you can’t see them, but I feel them walk around me, lay up against me, put their claws in my left foot and get up in my hair and kneed. Once I fall asleep they leave me alone. Its like they want to try to disturb me so I have trouble falling to sleep. Sometimes in the day if I pray kneel next to my bed to pray, one will start kneeding next to me as though it wants to disturb my prayer. The deliverance prayers seem to calm them down, but after 3 weeks of doing them every night, last night the unclean ghost spirits acted up. But yesterday I left a message with the Exocist of Atlanta Georgia. They didn’t like that.
Please pray for. I’m trying to talk to the Exorcist here in Atlanta Georgia for advise and help.

Thank you so much for these prayers. They have given me relief. I am currently housesitting for a coworker and do not feel the spiritual protection that I have at home. (My father will use Holy Water in each room at night, etc.) I do not know if the family I am housesitting for is religious but I do not feel at ease staying here.
