The prayer to Mary at the Foot of the Cross is a nine-year novena by Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and his team from the Archdiocese of Denver. This novena prayer should be said daily in anticipation of the 2000 year anniversary of the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ in 2033.

Prints of the special commissioned icon created by Elizabeth Zelasko entitled, “Standing with Mary at the Foot of the Cross” can be purchased from her official website.

Archbishop Aquila suggests the faithful also include prayers for the reparation of sins, Masses offered for the forgiveness of sin, praying the Chaplet of the Holy Face of Jesus, and the Rosary of the Sorrowful Mysteries in addition to offering all our good works to honor and glorify the heavenly Father.

Prayer to Mary at the Foot of the Cross

Most Blessed Virgin Mary, who stood firm at the foot of the cross, you never abandoned your Son, Jesus, even in the hour of his Passion and Death.

We honor your courage, hope and profound love for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Grant that we, who desire to stand with you at the foot of the Cross, will open our hearts to the mysteries of salvation, will be strengthened in hope by Jesus’ Passion, and will live in surrender to the Father’s plan.

We pray to you, Dearest Mother, for your intercession for the reparation of our sins and those of the whole world.

May your Immaculate Heart triumph from the foot of the Cross.

AMEN.
