The Whole Rosary: Pray all 20 Mysteries

Pray the whole rosary, all 20 mysteries of the rosary, every day using these meditations. This devotion will help you overcome anxiety, despair, and habitual sin.

Pray the whole rosary. This rosary meditation includes all 20 mysteries of the rosary. The devotion of praying the whole rosary of 15 mysteries was once the norm. There is tremendous power in the rosary, and praying all the mysteries of the rosary each day will give you tremendous grace to persevere. The luminous mysteries of the rosary were written in the 1950s by Saint George Preca and adopted by Saint Pope John Paul II in 2002.  Saint George Preca was led by the Holy Spirit to focus on the public ministry of Christ and the sacraments of the Church through the Holy Rosary. He began praying 5 new “mysteries of light” and he published them in 1973. These mysteries are a powerful reminder for our Church of the sacrament of baptism, matrimony, the need for regular Mass attendance to hear the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, and the importance of the Holy Eucharist. Many Christians overcome anxiety, despair, and habitual sin through praying the whole rosary daily. If you are struggling and need help turning toward Christ, begin praying the whole rosary every day.

The modern world seems to think that 5 mysteries a day is enough, but actually, this devotion is meant to be prayed in it’s entirety every single day.

You can choose to pray this rosary with 20 mysteries throughout the day, using 4 separate prayer times. Begin praying the whole rosary in the morning by praying the opening prayers and all the joyful mysteries. Then at lunch pray just the luminous mysteries. In the evening pray the sorrowful mysteries. At night pray the glorious mysteries and then pray the concluding prayers of the whole rosary.

It may seem like 4 rosaries a day is a lot, but once you get into the rhythm of it in your daily life, this devotion is quite easy to keep, especially if you have a partner to pray it with. Enter into prayer with the right disposition and this devotion will become a powerful way to grow in virtue and in your relationship with God. Each mystery should be followed by 10 Hail Mary prayers. While praying the Hail Mary prayers, asking for her intercession, meditate on the mystery, opening your heart to grace.

Opening Prayers

Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

Yes, from now onward all generations will call me blessed, for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name, and his faithful love extends age after age to those who fear him.”

Closing Prayers

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for Us O holy Mother of God

℟. That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

Amen

  1. If you pray 4 rosaries a day I it praying all 4 of the mysteries (5 each) or is it praying 4 of the mysteries (5each) 4 times
    So is it
    20 mysteries
    Or
    80 mysteries

    1. Hi Mike, The whole rosary was once 15 mysteries. In 1569 Pope Pius V approved this devotion for the faithful. It is common practice for the faithful to pray one set of 5 mysteries each day. There are now 4 sets of 5 mysteries, as St. Pope John Paul II approved the Luminous Mysteries and asked that they be prayed on Thursdays. When we pray the “whole rosary” we are praying all 4 sets of 5 mysteries each in the course of one day as opposed to only one set of 5 mysteries a day over the course of the week. When we only pray one set of 5 mysteries we will usually pray the following: joyful mysteries on Mondays and Saturdays; luminous mysteries on Thursdays; sorrowful mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays; and glorious mysteries on Wednesdays and Sundays. Praying the whole rosary is praying the joyful, luminous, sorrowful and glorious mysteries all at once in one day or spread out in 4 prayer sessions throughout one day.

    1. Thank you Bibi, I like to use this page to help me pray the whole rosary throughout the day. The menu makes it easy to pick up where you left off and keep praying a little bit at a time until it is finished.
