Freedom and grace.
The grace of Christ is not in the slightest way a rival of our freedom when this freedom accords with the sense of the true and the good that God has put in the human heart. On the contrary, as Christian experience attests especially in prayer, the more docile we are to the promptings of grace, the more we grow in inner freedom and confidence during trials, such as those we face in the pressures and constraints of the outer world. By the working of grace the Holy Spirit educates us in spiritual freedom in order to make us free collaborators in his work in the Church and in the world:

Almighty and merciful God, graciously keep from us all adversity, so that, unhindered in mind and body alike, we may pursue in freedom of heart the things that are yours.

How Am I Experiencing God through My Senses?

There is so much confusion in the world today about God and the things of God. You are exposed to many religions, philosophies, ideologies, experiences, beliefs, and practices in today’s world. You are constantly told what is evil is good, and what is false is actually true. You can click on any given news feed and find multiple contradicting claims of truth. You are forced to accept that everyone’s experiences and beliefs are part of what the modern world calls relative truth. Your mind is then left confused, gaslit, and in a constant state of rumination and overthinking. This leads to distraction in prayer and a constant feeling of anxiety and depression. Is there such a thing as absolute truth? Can God give me the grace to know it?

You feel you are being played, but you don’t know how to quiet your mind and find peace in Christ. You know that Satan doesn’t speak truth; he only manipulates the truth and turns it into a lie. Of course, he then convinces the masses to believe in it. We are nothing without absolute truth and an intimate relationship with Christ founded on the truth. The whole point of our existence is to be in communion with God. This is the whole point of the Cross.

You were created for union with God for all of eternity, not just this life, but also in the life to come. You are a body with a soul that is destined for eternity and instinctively craves a relationship with God. Your soul longs for him throughout all the distractions. You instinctively know when you are deceived. Something in you knows it could be a lie. You may even enter into a false religion, or reject religion altogether, to pretend you believe that there is no God. But Jesus Christ is always there in your mind and soul, somehow present to you. As long as you can’t be satisfied, you are restless.

I Am a Body with A Soul

So how do you overcome this struggle with ruminating, overthinking, and racing thoughts? How do you sift through the lies and come to believe in the truth?

Let’s begin with an introduction to Catholic teaching on the singular nature of your body and soul.

For starters, your soul and your body form a single nature within you. Our modern secular world tries to separate these two parts of our being. What do I mean by this? Both modern science and new age religious ideologies challenge the concept of your body and soul being a singular nature that is interconnected. Instead they consider them distinct entities that can be treated separately.

You see this in modern psychology, which will address the body and ignore the soul. Some argue that your soul is separate from your physical body, and therefore, your physical body can be rejected for the spiritual realm. We see this in Gnosticism and in modern medical science’s obsession with medical treatments for body dysmorphia. They focus only on the physical aspects of human existence, ignoring the spiritual dimension of our human experience and the fact that our bodies and souls are connected and inseparable in this life.

Your body and your soul are connected until the moment of death. You are made in God’s image with an intellect and a will that gives you a unique dignity and capacity for relationship with God. You are body and soul. You are unique, beautiful, created by God and for God to be in union with him both in this life and in the next. You are made to know and love God with all your heart. Yes, you will suffer in this life, and yes, your body will break down, become sick, and eventually give way to death. But as long as you are alive, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit [1 Corinthians 6:19-20] and when you treat your body as holy and set apart for God, you glorify him.

Remember, you have a body, a soul, and a spirit. Your soul is what gives life to your body. Your spirit is what lends you to receive God’s grace; it is the higher spiritual faculty of your soul. When you lift up your heart to the Lord in prayer, you pray with your body, soul, and spirit. [1 Thessalonians 5:23].

Since you are both a spiritual being and a physical being, you have both exterior senses and interior senses. You experience the world around you with your exterior senses of sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste. With your interior senses you respond to stimuli that relate to your basic needs and desires for survival and well-being. You have hunger, thirst, and a need for sleep, so these senses drive you to seek satisfaction through exterior senses of sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste.

But you also have a kind of interior sense that forms your will and your intellect. There are five kinds that are informed by your conscience, which guides your moral judgment and decision-making. Your conscience must be well-formed to guide your decision-making. It helps you be obedient to God and the Church, which Christ left us as the pillar and foundation of truth [1 Timothy 3:15]. A well-formed conscience will help you receive God’s grace and develop a solid relationship with him. You develop it through learning about the teachings of the Church and living them out. Next, we will meditate on the interior senses of the mind: common sense, memory, imagination, fantasy, and cogitation or contemplation

Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings.

Trust and Believe…

Begin this prayer by putting yourself in the presence of Jesus Christ, who is the image of the Heavenly Father. Jesus tells us that when we see him we see the Father. To do this, take a few moments to imagine Jesus before you. Use a crucifix or a favorite picture of his face that you have. Look at it and as you do, open your heart to the Lord. Tell him you know he is present to you and then ask him to give you the grace to be present to him as you begin this opening prayer for a clear mind…

Meditative Prayer for a Clear Mind

Opening Prayer for a Clear Mind

Start with Love…

Lord Jesus Christ,

I love you and I know you are present to me because you love me and you want what is best for me. Jesus, I trust in your loving presence and I offer you my heart in gratitude for all the blessings you have given me in my life. I humbly come before you as a child in need of your loving guidance.

Please heal me of my disordered thoughts and give me a clear mind rooted in faith and reason so that I may glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Please take away all the disfunction in my thought processes that have been established through the sins I have committed in the past, the trauma I have experienced, and and my own prejudice and ignorance. Have mercy on my soul and grant me a sound mind so that I might honor you all the remaining days of my life. Be merciful to me and help enlighten both my exterior and interior senses so that I might recognize truth and be present to you and aware of the workings of the Holy Spirit in my life. Please gift me with humility so that I do not let doubt, egotism, or pride keep me from accepting the pillar and foundation of truth you have established through your Church on Earth.

I beg you to cover me in your Precious Blood so that I may be healed of every affliction in my mind. Please heal every traumatic memory that has fractured my soul and give me a clean heart. I ask for a renewed mind free from my own prejudice so that I can be firmly established in truth as a disciple of Christ, rooted in the teachings of the Church with obedience and faith. Jesus, you promise your children to knock and the door will be opened, to seek and we will find, to ask and we will receive [Matthew 7:7-8]. Please grant me this intention so that I may be healed of every affliction of the mind, freed from demonic oppression, and have the grace to overcome all of my sinful habits once and for all.

AMEN.

Now we will take a few moments to learn about our interior senses and how the prayer of contemplation works.

Interior Senses for Contemplation

The First: My Common Sense

Do I have adequate common sense? Can I make sensible decisions and navigate situations based on everyday knowledge and reasoning? Do I possess within me widely held beliefs and knowledge about the world, its objects, and their typical behaviors. Common sense is the shared, implicit understanding of the world and how it operates, often used to make practical judgments and predictions. It’s not a specific sense like vision or hearing, but rather a cognitive function that helps us interpret sensory input and make sense of our experiences.

The Second: Sensitive Memory

“Sensitive memory,” often referred to as sensory memory, is the very first stage of memory, holding a brief, fleeting record of sensory information like sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touch. It acts as a temporary buffer, allowing our brain to process the sensory information before it either decays or is transferred to short-term or long-term memory. Sensory memory lasts only for a fraction of a second to a few seconds at most. It captures a raw, detailed representation of the sensory experience, acting as the initial “snapshot” of what we’re perceiving. Not all information in sensory memory is transferred to short-term memory. Only the information that is deemed relevant or important is passed on, a process influenced by attention.

The Third: Imagination

Imagination is a cognitive process that allows individuals to create mental images, ideas, and sensations, even in the absence of direct sensory input. It involves manipulating intrinsically generated information to form a representation perceived by the mind’s senses. This process is crucial for human creativity, innovation, and understanding the world. It’s a dynamic process that involves manipulating mental images, ideas, and sensations. This process can be influenced by emotions, goals, and other cognitive factors.

The Fourth: Fantasy

Fantasy, in the context of cognition and senses, refers to the brain’s ability to create and explore imaginary worlds, often using sensory and emotional experiences. It’s not just about imagining; fantasy involves the active construction of a reality, even if it’s not based on external stimuli. This process can be beneficial for cognitive development, emotional clarity, and even creative thinking. Fantasy helps us explore and understand our own thoughts and feelings, a process called metacognition. It is helpful in connecting with the emotions of others and developing empathy and perspective-taking skills.

The Fifth: Cogitative Sense

St. Albert the Great says: “In general, every being endowed with sensation has a desire for the food which it needs for its nourishment.”

Cogitative sense refers to a specific internal sense faculty, often associated with animals and humans, that allows for the evaluation and judgment of perceived information. This sense helps to determine whether something is desirable, harmful, or of neutral value. Thomas Aquinas believes that it operates on the level of individual perceptions and cannot form abstract, universal concepts like the intellect. This sense is common in old psychology and mostly ignored in modern psychology. (See St. Thomas Aquinas from the summa).

The cogitative sense (or contemplative sense) is a mental faculty that acts on the external senses, receiving and interpreting sensory information. It functions as a bridge between the physical world and the mind, processing and organizing perceptions from the five senses. This faculty is crucial for understanding the world around us and is a stepping stone towards higher levels of spiritual knowledge. For Bonaventure, the cogitative sense plays a vital role in the ascent of the soul towards God. It’s through this sense that we begin to perceive and appreciate the beauty and goodness of God’s creation, which then motivates us to seek a deeper relationship with Him. Cogitative sense informs our consciousness and aims to place inferior senses at the service of superior ones that are more rational. So the cogitative sense helps us be better human beings who do things according to the good of the whole. It is more than instinct. This is why it is vital for the spiritual life.

Now we will take a few moments to learn about our interior senses and how the prayer of contemplation works.

Say Nothing Just Take Him In

Spend 1-3 minutes in silence gazing at Jesus your image of Jesus with love and gratitude, in a prayer of silent contemplation.

When you have finished we will begin our first prayer to overcome tempations of the exterior senses.

Meditative Prayer for a Clear Mind

Prayer to Overcome Temptations of the Exterior Senses

Holy Trinity, One God, through the power of the Precious Blood of Jesus that was shed for my sake, I humbly ask for the grace to overcome temptations to sin through my exterior senses.

Holy Trinity, have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

Holy Trinity, please guide me in controlling my exterior senses so that I may be pure and holy in your sight. Let me perceive the outside world through the light of grace and practice temperance every day.

I consecrate my eyes to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my eyes to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sight to your will; please give me the grace to shelter my eyes from lustful images, sinful curiosity, and coveting what I see.

I consecrate my nose to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my nose to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sense of smell to your will; please give me the grace to overcome sensual temptations triggered by scents that evoke sinful habits and emotional memories from past sins.

I consecrate my ears to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my ears to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my hearing to your will; please give me the grace to reject harmful messages and conversations that taint my mind with evil ideas and lead to sin.

I consecrate my hands to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my hands to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sense of touch to your will; please give me the grace to avoid giving in to sensual urges, especially the sins of the flesh, both lustful and carnal pleasures.

I consecrate my tongue to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my tongue to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sense of taste and speech to your will; please give me grace to abstain from overindulgence for sensual pleasure, and to speak truth in love, avoiding speech that kills.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, and through the Power of his Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, I hereby consecrate all my exterior senses to the Most Holy Trinity, so that they may be dedicated for use that is pure and holy and Glorifies God.

AMEN.

Next we will take a few moments to learn about how thinking becomes being during contemplative prayer.

Am I Overthinking Things?

Have you ever heard of the poem called “The Centipede’s Dilemma” by Katherine Craster? It describes the paralyzing psychological effects of overthinking and rumination that we all experience:

A centipede was happy – quite!
Until a toad in fun
Said, “Pray, which leg moves after which?”
This raised her doubts to such a pitch,
She fell exhausted in the ditch
Not knowing how to run.

If you overthink it, things that should come automatically become impossible. This happens to all of us. We all have a spiritual instinct about what God is asking us to do, because we are human beings with a soul, and our souls have a spirit that longs for union with God. So we are hard-wired to contemplate God and feel his presence in prayer.

Rumination is a beast when you are going through something tough and your mind is constantly bombarded with thoughts that trigger unwanted memories and emotions.

If this is you, then the development of your cogitative sense is important. In simple terms, your cogitative sense is your prayer instinct. The more you practice contemplative and meditative prayer, the more connected you feel to God.

So, the better able you are to open your heart in the presence of God, the better able you are to switch from thinking to being. When you get there, all of a sudden your mind is no longer running, it is resting. You are no longer in a thought pattern, instead you are resting in the presence of God. Let me describe it another way. Imagine seeing an old couple on a bench together holding hands. They are not talking to each other, yet they are experiencing the same environment and are present to each other in a deep and meaningful way. They have no need to use words. They can feel and know each other’s love because they are familiar with each other in the most intimate way.

As you develop your cogitative sense, you will begin to notice the goodness of God in the world around you and be able to perceive spiritual things in particular moments of your life with an insight not previously known. These experiences will motivate you to seek a deeper relationship with God so that your level of intimacy in prayer will further develop.

Your growing cogitative sense provides spiritual wisdom in life situations, and it helps you make rational decisions for the good of the whole rather than emotional decisions from your own human desires (concupiscence) and need for power.

So your cogitative sense helps you use your spiritual instincts with the help of the Holy Spirit to do God’s will. This is why it is vital to cultivate your prayer life to grow your cogitative sense. The practical way to do this is to pray for it, spend time in silent contemplation, and learn the teachings of the Church so that you can develop an informed conscience. When you know the teachings of the Church and live a sacramental life it’s like playing a game of bowling with the bumpers up to keep you from throwing gutter balls.

Meditative Prayer for a Clear Mind

Prayer to Overcome Temptations of the Interior Senses

Holy Trinity, One God, through the power of the Precious Blood of Jesus that was shed for my sake, I humbly ask for the grace to overcome temptations to sin through my interior senses.

Holy Trinity, have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

Holy Trinity, please guide me in controlling my interior senses so that I may have a clear mind and be pure and holy in your sight. Let me perceive all interior senses through the light of grace and possess a rational mind capable of right reason every day.

I consecrate my common sense to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my common sense to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my common sense to your will; please give me the grace to make practical judgments and predictions based on the virtue of faith and the gift of reason.

I consecrate my memory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my memory to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender memories of past sins and traumas; please give me the grace needed to heal my mind of bad memories that have fractured my soul.

I consecrate my imagination to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my imagination to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my imagination to your will; please give me the grace to create mental images, ideas, and sensations that glorify God in spirit and truth, and protect me from mental images, ideas, and sensations from demonic sources, whether they appear as messages of light or images of darkness.

I consecrate my sense of fantasy to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my sense of fantasy to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sense of fantasy to your will; please give me the grace to create and explore imaginary worlds that glorify you using my sensory and emotional experiences so that I may develop empathy and a holy perspective of my own thought patterns and processes.

I consecrate my cogitative memory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my cogitative sense to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my cogitative sense to your will, please give me the grace to perceive and appreciate the beauty and goodness of God’s creation, an informed conscience so that I know what is sinful, and fear of offending you with sin.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, and through the Power of his Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, I hereby consecrate all my interior senses to the Most Holy Trinity, so that they may be dedicated for use that is pure and holy and Glorifies God.

AMEN.

In this next step we will learn the difference between a mental health issue and diabolical obsessions.

Ruminations, is it Mental Health Issue or Demonic?

You may be suffering from a clinical disorder and this is the root cause of your constant ruminations, racing thoughts, and overthinking. Your condition may cause you to obsessively ruminate about real or imagined memories, possibly with or without compulsions. You may even be on a medical treatment for your condition. Pray to the Lord for wisdom and guidance as you grow in your relationship with him and pray for a clear mind. God knows your situation and loves you deeply. Whatever you ask in his name, he will give you according to his will.

But sometimes, obsessive thoughts are not from a medical condition. They can also come from the demonic. How do you know the difference? Demonic obsessions are more intense than psychological ruminations. They are also triggered by prayer and other holy practices, and even sacramentals. If you have ever dabbled in new age practices or the occult, you may have opened a door to the demonic, especially if you have not formally repented of these past sins and renounced them.

Satan can’t create things. He can only manipulate things and take the truth and turn it into a lie and convince you to believe it. Likewise, he can enhance an already existing clinical disorder and make it more intense and unbearable. If you feel your ruminations and overthinking may be diabolical in nature, make a good confession and seek the advice of a priest. Begin a disciplined prayer life and spend as much time as possible in prayer in Eucharistic adoration.

God is good and he will give you all the grace you need for deliverance and healing. You are a person with a body and a soul that has a singular nature. If you desire healing of body, mind, and soul, then pray with faith in the Lord to direct your path and give you the grace you need to be healed, whether it is medical, natural, supernatural, or by giving you a new heart. He will give you a sound mind.

“You should put away the old self of your former way of life, corrupted through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created in God’s way in righteousness and holiness of truth.” [Ephesians 4:22-24]

The education of the conscience is a lifelong task. From the earliest years, it awakens the child to the knowledge and practice of the interior law recognized by conscience. Prudent education teaches virtue; it prevents or cures fear, selfishness and pride, resentment arising from guilt, and feelings of complacency, born of human weakness and faults. The education of the conscience guarantees freedom and engenders peace of heart.

Meditative Prayer for a Clear Mind

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel,

Defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

AMEN.

In the formation of conscience the Word of God is the light for our path, we must assimilate it in faith and prayer and put it into practice. We must also examine our conscience before the Lord's Cross. We are assisted by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, aided by the witness or advice of others and guided by the authoritative teaching of the Church.

Meditative Prayer for a Clear Mind

Prayer for a Clear Mind Full of Faith and Reason

Heavenly Father, I ask to be covered in the Precious Blood of your Son Jesus Christ so that I may have a clear mind full of faith and reason. Father, have mercy on me and by the merits of your Son Jesus Christ, please deliver me from all doubt, egotism, and pride, replacing these vices with faith, charity, and humility.

Heavenly Father, I also humbly ask for the grace to overcome the temptation to sin through both my exterior senses and my interior senses. Father, I humbly ask that you give me the grace to form a good conscience. Help me form good common sense so that I may make good judgments and practical decisions as a disciple of Christ. Help me use my imagination for good and holy pursuits. Lord, please allow me to develop empathy for others and see them as you do.

Father, please help my soul have good cogitative sense; give me the grace to deny the inferior senses that are emotional, and prioritize the superior ones that are more rational. You have the power to heal me. Please help me cultivate a rational mind that is firm in faith. Help me learn how to make rational decisions that will benefit the good of the whole rather than make emotional decisions based on anxiety, despair, fear, anger, or the need for power.

AMEN.

Be Completely Real…

In this next part we will take a few moments to meditate on scripture passages describing the nature of God and how he cares for our needs. Read these passages with your heart and meditate on them as you contemplate God’s loving presence in this moment.

Pray for a Clear Mind with Scripture

Scripture meditation is another way to help overcome your habit of overthinking. There are many passages in the Bible that teach us about God’s nature and how we should pray and what we should ask for. Let’s take a look at a few:

Psalms 46:2-4

God is our refuge and our strength,

an ever-present help in distress.

Thus we do not fear, though earth be shaken

and mountains quake to the depths of the sea,

Though its waters rage and foam

and mountains totter at its surging.

Psalms 55:23

Cast your care upon the LORD,

who will give you support.

He will never allow

the righteous to stumble.

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

on your own intelligence do not rely;

In all your ways be mindful of him,

and he will make straight your paths.

Do not be wise in your own eyes,

fear the LORD and turn away from evil;

This will mean health for your flesh

and vigor for your bones.

Isaiah 41:9-10

You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth

and summoned from its far-off places,

To whom I have said, You are my servant;

I chose you, I have not rejected you—

Do not fear: I am with you;

do not be anxious: I am your God.

I will strengthen you, I will help you,

I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

Visualize Christ…

Take a moment to close your eyes and picture him looking at you. You may want to imagine a favorite image of him coming alive and speaking to you as you read this last passage…

John 14:23-27

Jesus answered and said to him, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me. I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”

Are You Listening…

As we near the end of our prayer for a clear mind we bring our attention back to the love of the Heavenly Father. Pray each affirmation from your heart.

Take the next best step in the present moment, and love the process of leaning on God and not your own understanding. You will climb this mountain. When you fall, the Lord will lift you up. Your current situation will eventually change. All things are possible with God, all you need is faith and a little perseverance.

The Surrender Prayer

God, my Father, I thank you for all that you are, and all that you do for me through your son Jesus Christ. I praise you for my life, for your mercy, and for your Eucharist.

In Jesus’ name, Father, I place myself entirely in your Heart. I surrender to you my whole self, my heart, my mind, my memory, my imagination, my will, my emotions, my passions, my body, my sexuality, my desire for human approval, my weaknesses, my desires, my sins.

I surrender every person in my life to you.

I surrender every situation in my life to you.

I surrender every relationship I am in to you.

I surrender every concern I have to you.

I surrender every fear I have to you.

I surrender every doubt I have to you.

I surrender all confusion I have to you.

I surrender all sadness I am experiencing in my heart to you.

I surrender all my wounds to you.

I surrender all anxiety and worry I have to you.

I surrender all that deceives me in my heart to you.

I trust you to care for me and others in a perfectly loving way. As I have emptied myself, and surrendered everything to you, I ask you now, Father, to fill me with your Holy Spirit and all the gifts and fruits of your Spirit. Holy Spirit you are the source of love, hope, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, tenderness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. Purify my desires.

Help me to open my heart to you.

Help me to become perfectly receptive as a pure child.

Help me to believe in your love for me.

Help me to hope in your love.

Help me to receive from the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus all grace and virtues necessary for me to become the person you created me to be.

I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, Your son, God Almighty Father.

O Most Holy Immaculate Virgin Mary, I entrust this prayer to you, and ask you to press it to your wounded heart and intercede for me to your Son Jesus. Please help me to be as you are, a perfect disciple, an obedient servant, a true child of God.

AMEN.

Meditative Prayer for a Clear Mind

Closing Prayer for a Clear Mind

Holy Trinity, teach me to imitate you in humility and charity. Grant that through the Holy Spirit I might grow in wisdom, counsel, and understanding in order to form a good conscience that will give me a clear mind full of faith, a heart full of charity, and a humble disposition.

Heavenly Father, protect me from the sins of the mind so that I may be a worthy disciple of your Son Jesus Christ. Let me overcome all doubt, egotism, and pride and replace these vices with the virtues of faith, charity, and humility so I may bring the light of Christ to those in need.

Jesus, I humbly ask that you help me make good judgments and practical decisions that are based on God’s will for my life. Help me use my imagination for good and holy pursuits. Lord, please allow me to develop empathy for others and see them as you do. Jesus, let me use my cogitative sense to contemplate the things of God and my place in this world. Help me learn how to do things that will benefit the good of the whole, rather than make decisions based on feelings of anxiety, despair, fear, anger, or the need for power.

AMEN.
