The prayer of Consecration to the Holy Spirit is a prayer of commitment to set oneself aside for a holy purpose, to be used by the Holy Spirit according to the will of God.
Consecration to the Holy Spirit for Guidance
When Jesus left us and ascended into Heaven He promised us the gift of the Holy Spirit, our Paraclete, our advocate. It is by this beautiful gift that we, His beloved, are able to know and love Him and do His holy will. To know Him we must possess Him. And through this mystery we are given the Holy Spirit. Without the inspirations of the Holy Spirit active in our lives we cannot know the deceit of the devil, his many traps and enticements. The merciful gift of counsel, one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, is given to guide us to know good from evil in times of confusion. How can we know the will of God in unclear situations where the only option seems to be a lesser of two evils? It is by the Holy Spirit. Are you asking for the gifts of the Holy Spirit? Are you calling on the Lord to give you an outpouring of the Holy Spirit so that you may make right judgements and right actions in accordance to the will of God every day?
A Prayer of Consecration to the Holy Spirit
is a Covenant with God
When you make a prayer of consecration to the Holy Spirit you set yourself aside and separate yourself from this world for the service of God. You are consecrating yourself to the things of God as a servant of God. We pray this prayer of consecration to the Holy Spirit as a means of entering into a covenant with God. It is a promise to separate ourselves from the evil of the world and to dedicate ourselves to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit. God alone knows the heart, and He speaks to it His divine truth through His Holy Spirit. When we are not in a state of grace and docile to the Holy Spirit we can be attacked by the devil and unable to discern what is God’s will and what is deception.
The Power of God's Promise
His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and power. Through these, he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, virtue with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with devotion, devotion with mutual affection, mutual affection with love. If these are yours and increase in abundance, they will keep you from being idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Anyone who lacks them is blind and shortsighted, forgetful of the cleansing of his past sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more eager to make your call and election firm, for, in doing so, you will never stumble. For, in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.
