This page gathers prayers to the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete promised by Christ to guide, strengthen, and dwell within us. Many of the prayers here call on the seven spiritual gifts traditionally associated with the Holy Spirit — you’ll find prayers asking for one gift specifically, as well as prayers that invoke all seven together.
A brief guide to the seven gifts, for reference as you pray:
Wisdom — judging and directing human affairs according to divine truth
Understanding — grasping the deeper truths of the faith with certainty beyond ordinary belief
Counsel — being guided by God in matters necessary for salvation
Fortitude — the strength to do good and avoid evil, even when it’s difficult
Knowledge — judging rightly in matters of faith and right action
Piety — reverence and filial affection toward God, honoring Him and others through Him
Fear of the Lord — a desire to avoid offending God, rather than fear of punishment
If you’re not sure where to begin, pick the gift that speaks most to what you’re facing right now — fortitude for a hard season, counsel for a difficult decision — and pray with that one intention for a while before moving to another.
