The Virgin Mary is the Mother of all the peoples. While on the cross Jesus gave her to John, his disciple as his mother. Catholics believe by giving her as mother to John, she became mother of us all, a Mother of the Church. Catholics honor her just as Jesus did by venerating her. Mary was the very first Christian who, when the angel Gabriel came to her, said yes to the divine call to bear the Christ child for the salvation of the world. She knew through the prophets that both she and Jesus would suffer. She willingly said yes to God in stark contrast to the first woman, Eve, who disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.
Devotion to Mary is a partnership. It begins with consecrating yourself to her and promising to pray a daily rosary and devote your life to the service of God. If you do these things, she will lead you to Jesus in a beautiful way.
