Mary Queen of Heaven Sovereign of the Angles is a prayer received by Blessed Fr. Louis–Édouard Cestac (1801–1868). He was a French priest and the founder of the Congregation of the Servants of Mary.  

On January 13, 1864, Blessed Fr. Louis Cestac was suddenly struck with a vision. He attested to have seen demons spreading out over the earth, and causing unbelievable damage.

He was horrified but was relieved to see the Mother of God before him in a vision. She told him that the demons had been let loose. She also told him that the time had come for the world to request her intercession to fight and end the grave powers of Hell. Then the Virgin Mary gave Blessed Fr. Louis Cestac the prayer we now know as the “August Queen” or Mary Queen of Heaven Sovereign of the Angels prayer. 

We can ask for the intercession of the Virgin Mary as Mary Queen of Heaven Sovereign of the Angels, imploring her to send the holy legions to combat and overthrow the powers of hell by reciting this prayer of spiritual protection.

When Blessed Fr. Louis Cestac received the prayer he first asked the Queen of Heaven a question.

“My Mother,” Blessed Fr. Louis Cestac asked, “you who are so good, could You not send them without our having to ask?”

“No,” replied Mary Queen of Heaven. “Prayer is a condition set by God Himself in order to obtain graces.”

“Well then! my mother,” replied Blessed Fr. Louis Cestac, “would you teach me Yourself how we must pray to You?”

And he received from the most Holy Virgin the Mary Queen of Heaven Sovereign of the Angels, or “August Queen” prayer.
