This Holy Spirit prayer when in distress and needing help can be prayed by any believer in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is a gift given to the Church from Our Lord and Savior.
The Holy Spirit is the Third Person in the Trinity. This Comforter is given to Christians for our individual sanctification and salvation as a gift that was promised to us by Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit comes to abide with you and to help you grow in virtue, especially in charity, so that you may become holy and your body can become a living temple where the divine presence of God can dwell. When you are baptized this puts an indelible mark on your soul. This means that even if you sever your union with God through grievous sins and a desire to turn away from so good a God, the Sweet Holy Spirit will not forsake you, nor give you up into the hands of your enemies. At the first sign of your willingness to repent and turn away from evil, the Sweet Spirit of God will envelope your soul with divine love and make you His own once more.
St. Louis de Montfort warns, “The grace of the Holy Spirit does not permit of delay. When God is asking his creatures for anything, he asks gently leaving them entirely free. But the longer we delay in responding to his gentle request the less we hear his voice, and the longer his voice goes unheeded the more his justice is asserted. You must be careful!”
Please pray this prayer, and if you are in need of a general confession, please prepare your heart to ask for the forgiveness of all your grave sins so that once again your body can become a temple of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said to His disciples, "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”
John 14:16-21
Prayer when In Distress and Needing Help
O Divine Holy Spirit of infinite Love, my Divine Counselor and my Comforter,
I come to You in this moment as I am in deep distress. Please come to my assistance, O Sweet Holy Spirit, come through the power of the Precious Blood of Jesus, and in His Holy Name. O Sweet Holy Spirit of Love, come to comfort me in my distress and guide my poor soul to know the will of the Father and to obey it.
O Sweet Holy Spirit, if it be possible, and pleasing to You, I ask that You take this chalice of suffering from me.
But as my Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane, I obediently say, “Yet not my will, but Your will be done!”
Lord, if it be Your will that I must bear this cross, then give me the grace to accept it with all resignation. Help me to carry it patiently out of love for Jesus, my Crucified Redeemer, and in atonement for my sins. Send me Your gifts to strengthen my resolve. Give me wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, piety, and fear of disappointing You with a lack of love and ingratitude.
The wicked have told me lies. They have pressured me to break Your law. They have denied Your statutes as truth. They have persecuted me unjustly.
O Sweet Holy Spirit, You will help me. You will lift me up. By Your Spirit I am protected from all evil. You will not forsake me.
Lord, when the cross weighs heavily on me, please come to my aid in that moment. O Sweet Spirit, uphold me by Your power and console me with Your heavenly comfort.
Spirit of Wisdom, let me learn from You and avoid all falsehoods.
Spirit of Understanding, open my eyes to be enlightened.
Spirit of Knowledge, give me grace to live for my eternal life and not for the things of this world.
Spirit of Counsel, protect me from making judgments that are not of God’s will.
Spirit of Fortitude, in all my trials give me strength.
Spirit of Piety, make my heart and my body a holy and pure temple for the indwelling of Your Spirit.
Spirit of Fear, give me such a repulsion for my sins that they deeply grieve my soul and cause me to grow in the way of perfection.
Make me worthy of my calling so that Your eternal light may rest upon me and in me as Christ calls.
You are the sevenfold power of God’s great majesty.
You are the sevenfold glory of the Trinity.
You are the sevenfold beauty of the Unity.
You are the sevenfold Gift from God’s Eternity.
You are the depth and breath of the love between Father and Son, and Eternal giver of spiritual gifts to all who ask.
Oh Sweet Holy Spirit, I praise and worship You, I adore You, I kneel to You, I lean on You to guide my steps.
I put all my hope and trust in You, O Sweet Spirit, that You may keep me in the Divine Truth of the Way of the Lord all my days as I continually seek Your face.
I am Yours, O God of Love. By You I have been signed and sealed in the Precious Blood of Jesus. O Sweet Spirit, You guide and direct my path. To You do I belong. Do not let me abandon You and return to a sinful life.
Incline unto my aid, O God. O Lord, make haste to help me when in distress, for I am Yours and needing help.
Amen.
