If you are seeking to reconcile with God prayers of repentance hold much merit for your soul. We live in a time when mankind seems to “do as thou wilt” and not to do the holy will of God. If you are struggling with an habitual sin prayers of repentance will help you in your moments of weakness and failure.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches repentance is:

“Interior repentance is a radical reorientation of our whole life, a return, a conversion to God with all our heart, an end of sin, a turning away from evil, with repugnance toward the evil actions we have committed (CCC 1431).”

While prayers of repentance said at home are very efficacious, don’t neglect the sacrament of confession.

“Confession is more effective than an exorcism!” – wrote Fr. Gabriele Amorth, former exorcist of the diocese of Rome – “Satan is much more enraged when we take souls away from him through confession than when we take away bodies through exorcism.”

When you fail and you fall again to temptation, pray these prayers and seek reconciliation with God. It is through this dedication to please him that your soul will be healed. Always pray with a desire to please God and to amend your life. God in His mercy will give you the grace to grow in holiness and virtue.

Remember, the only sin that condemns a soul to hell is the sin against the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “In truth I tell you, all human sins will be forgiven, and all the blasphemies ever uttered; but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternal sin” (Mark 3: 28-29). What is this eternal sin? It’s when a person believes they have a sin that is unforgivable and therefore they refuse to repent of it, or a person believes they have a right to persist in a sin and they refuse to repent of it. In either case they are sinning against the Holy Spirit who is truth.
