The Holy Face of Jesus Devotion comes to us from Sr. Mary of St. Peter, a Discalced Carmelite Nun from Tours, France who died in 1848. Jesus told Sr. Mary of St. Peter that this devotion would defeat atheistic communism and restore peace to the world.

Origins of the Holy Face of Jesus Devotion
In 1844 Jesus began speaking to Sr. Mary of St. Peter, a Carmelite nun in Tours, France. Sr. Mary of St. Peter said Jesus told her that reparation was needed for the sins of blasphemy, denial of God, and for the profanation of Sundays and Holy Days.
During a period of five years, Our Lord gave Sr. Mary of St. Peter instructions about a powerful devotion He wanted established worldwide, the Holy Face of Jesus. The devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus would make reparation for the many sins of modern man that offend God the most. She said that the Lord told her to spread a devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, and those who contemplate his wounds on earth would see them radiant in heaven.
The Holy Face of Jesus Devotion offers reparation for the sins of atheism, blasphemy, not keeping the Lord’s day holy, or properly observing Holy Days of Obligation.
As with the devotion to the Divine Mercy, the devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus has been given to modern man as a way for us to beg for God’s mercy.
The devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus is a prayer of adoration.
Our Lord told Sr. Mary of St. Peter, “It is the express will of God that this Devotion be established in every diocese; that it be most zealously propagated and granted a papal brief so that it will never perish.” Jesus instructed Sr. Mary of St. Peter to pray the “Golden Arrow” prayer daily and preferably before the Blessed Sacrament or a picture of the Holy Face.
"He then made me see that this frightful sin wounds His Divine Heart more grievously than all other sins, showing me how by blasphemy, the sinner curses Him to His Face, attacks Him publicly, nulifies His Redemption, and pronounces his own judgment and condemnation... The Savior made me understand His justice was greatly irritated against mankind for its sins, but particularly for those that directly outrage the Majesty of God--that is, Communism, Atheism, cursing, and the desecration of Sundays and Holy Days. He said, The executioners crucified Me on Friday, Christians crucify me on Sunday."

Jesus' Promises to those Devoted to His Holy Face
- By offering My Face to My Eternal Father, nothing will be refused, and the conversion of many sinners
- By My Holy Face, they will work wonders, appease the anger of God and draw down mercy on sinners.
- All those who honor My Face in a spirit of reparation will by so doing perform the office of the pious Veronica.
- According to the care they take in making reparation to My Face disfigured by blasphemers, so will I take care of their souls which have been disfigured by sin. My Face is the Seal of the Divinity, which has the virtue of reproducing in souls the image of God.
- Those who by words, prayers or writings defend My cause in the Work of Reparation, especially My priests, I will defend before My Father, and will give them My Kingdom.
- As in a kingdom they can procure all that is desired with a coin stamped with the King’s effigy, so in the Kingdom of Heaven they will obtain all they desire with the precious coin of My Holy Face.
- Those who on earth contemplate the wounds of My Face shall in Heaven behold it radiant with glory.
- They will receive in their souls a bright and constant irradiation of My Divinity, that by their likeness to My Face they shall shine with particular splendor in Heaven.
- I will defend them, I will preserve them and I assure them of Final Perseverance.

The "Golden Arrow" Prayer of the Holy Face of Jesus
The Litany of the Holy Face of Jesus
To be prayed on Sundays and on Holy Days of Obligation
By Sr. Mary of St. Peter
I salute Thee, I adore Thee, and I love Thee,
O adorable Face of Jesus, my Beloved, noble Seal of the Divinity!
I offer Thee, through the heart of Thy Blessed Mother,
the worship of all the Angels and Saints,
most humbly beseeching Thee to repair and renew in me
and in all men Thy Image disfigured by sin.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face was adored,
with profound respect, by Mary and Joseph
when they saw Thee for the first time,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face ravished with joy,
the Angels, the shepherds, and the magi in the stable of Bethlehem,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face wounded with a dart of love
the aged Simeon and the prophetess Anna in the temple,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face filled with admiration the Doctors of the law
in the Temple at the age of twelve years,
Have mercy on us.
O Adorable Face which possesses beauty
always ancient and always new,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face is the masterpiece of the Holy Ghost,
in which the Eternal Father is well pleased,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face is the ineffable mirror
of the Divine Perfections,
Have mercy on us.
Adorable Face of Jesus,
which was so mercifully bowed down on the Cross
on the day of Thy Passion
for the salvation of the world!
Once more today in pity,
bend down towards us poor sinners.
Cast upon us a glance of compassion
and give us Thy peace.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face sorrowed
and wept at the tomb of Lazarus,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face
was brilliant like the sun
and radiant with glory on Mount Tabor,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face grew sad at the sight of Jerusalem,
when Thou didst weep over that ungrateful city,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face was bowed down
to the ground in the Garden of Olives,
and covered with confusion for our sins,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face was covered
with the sweat of blood,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face
was kissed by Judas,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face
was struck by a vile servant, shamefully blindfolded,
and profaned by the sacrilegious hands of Thine enemies,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, the divine look of whose Adorable Face
wounded the heart of St. Peter
with a dart of sorrow and love,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face
the pious Veronica wiped on the way to Calvary,
Have mercy on us.
Be merciful to us,
O my God! Do not reject our prayers,
when in the midst of our afflictions,
we call upon Thy Holy Name
and seek with love and confidence
Thy Adorable Face.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face was washed and anointed by Mary
and the holy women, and wrapped in a shroud,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face was all resplendent with glory and beauty
on the day of Thy Resurrection,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face is hidden in the Eucharist,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face will appear at the end of time
in the clouds with great power and majesty,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face
will cause the wicked to tremble,
Have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose Adorable Face will fill the just with joy
for all eternity,
Have mercy on us.
Lamb of God,
Who takest away the sins of the world,
Spare us O Lord.
Lamb of God,
Who takest away the sins of the world,
Graciously hear us O Lord.
Lamb of God,
Who takest away the sins of the world,
Have Mercy on us.
Amen
More About the Holy Face of Jesus Devotion
Below are a few profound quotes from saints about the Holy Face of Jesus, captured on Veronica’s veil.
“All those who, attracted by my love and venerating my Countenance, shall receive by virtue of my humanity, a brilliant and vivid impression of my Divinity. This splendour shall enlighten the depths of their souls, so that in eternal glory the court of heaven will marvel at the marked likeness of their features with my divine Countenance” – Jesus to St. Gertrude the Great
“If we wish to adore the real Face of Jesus, we can find it in the divine Eucharist, where with the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, the Face of Our Lord is hidden under the white veil of the Host.” – Saint Gaetano Catanoso
“I will that My Face, which reflects the intimate pains of my Spirit, the suffering and the love of My Heart, be more honoured. He who meditates upon Me, consoles Me.” – Jesus to Mother Maria Pierina
