The name of the Savior God was invoked only once in the year by the high priest in atonement for the sins of Israel, after he had sprinkled the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies with the sacrificial blood. The mercy seat was the place of God's presence. When St. Paul speaks of Jesus whom "God put forward as an expiation by his blood," he means that in Christ's humanity "God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself."

Why pray a Holy Hour for Priests?
Our priests need our prayers now more than ever. The priesthood is under constant attack by the enemies of the church and our priests are constantly tempted to succumb to these assaults. Learn more about why and how you can pray for priests here.
Jesus wants the faithful to pray for our priests, and not to criticize them. All priests have been called by the Lord to this sacred vocation. They all belong to Christ and are beloved by Him.
Saint Catherine of Siena wrote in The Dialogue “The sins of the clergy should not lessen your reverence for them.” God told Saint Catherine of Siena that we must show reverence toward priests because they have received from Jesus Christ the power to celebrate the sacrament of the altar. Pray for your priests, pray fervently, and pray regularly.

A Holy Hour for Priests
Eternal Father, we offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church and those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church: Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of Priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord. Lord, give us holy Priests; You yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares which are continually being set for the soul of Priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of Priests, for You can do all things. Amen.
by Cardinal Justin Rigali
Father in Heaven, We give you thanks for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to be our Lord, Savior and High Priest. We believe that, in the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus won for us the gift of eternal life by His Sacrifice on the Cross. We believe that Jesus renews this Sacrifice in the Holy Eucharist, through the ministry of His priests. Father, we earnestly beseech you to raise up holy priests in your Church. Grant young men the strength to accept generously the call to the priesthood. May they joyfully give their lives so that all your people can receive your holy Word and Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist, the great gift of the Body and Blood of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Savior and High Priest, in whose name we make our prayer. Amen.
Mary, Mother of Jesus, Throw your mantle of purity over our priests. Protect them, guide them and keep them in your heart. Be a mother to them especially in times of discouragement and loneliness. Love them and let them belong completely to Jesus. Like Jesus, they too are your sons, so keep their hearts pure and virginal. Keep their minds filled with Jesus, and put Jesus always on their lips, so that He is the one they offer to sinners and to all they meet. Mary, Mother of Jesus, be their Mother, loving them and bringing them joy. Take special care of sick and dying priests and the ones most tempted. Remember how they spent their youth and old age, their entire lives serving and giving all to Jesus. Mary, bless them and keep a special place for them in your heart. Give them a piece of your heart, so beautiful and pure and immaculate, so full of love and humility so that they, too, may grow in the likeness of Christ. Dear Mary, make them humble like you and holy like Jesus. Amen.
A Holy Hour for Priests
Begin by Praying:
O sacred banquet in which Christ is received,
the memory of His passion is renewed, the soul is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given us, Alleluia.
On each Our Father bead, pray:
My soul is thirsting for God, the strong and living God; when shall I enter and see the face of God? (Ps 41:3)
On the ten small decade beads, pray:
It is your Eucharistic face, O Lord, that I seek; hide not Your Eucharistic face from me. (Cf. Ps 26:8-9)
At that end of each decade, pray:
Behold, O God our protector, and look upon the face of Your Christ. (Ps 83:10)
Then pray:
Through Him, and with Him, and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is Yours, almighty God and Father, forever and ever. AMEN.
Then pray 3 times:
Father, glorify the Eucharistic face of Your Son, that His Eucharistic face may glorify You. (Jn 17:1)
(begin the next decade)
After 5 decades pray Salve Regina
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
℣. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God
℟. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Concluding Prayer
Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, who by the working of the Holy Spirit didst prepare both body and soul of the glorious virgin mother, Mary, that she might deserve to be made a worthy dwelling for Thy Son, grant that we who rejoice in her memory may, by her loving intercession, be delivered from present evils and from lasting death, through the same Christ our Lord.
AMEN.
A Holy Hour for Priests
Lord Jesus,
You have chosen your priests from among us and sent them out to proclaim Your Word and to act in Your name. For so great a gift to Your Church, we give You praise and thanksgiving.
We ask you to fill them with the fire of Your love, that their ministry may reveal Your presence in the Church. Since they are earthen vessels, we pray that Your power shine out through their weakness. In their afflictions let them never be crushed; in their doubts never despair; in temptation never be destroyed; in persecution never abandoned. Inspire them through prayer to live each day the mystery of Your dying and rising. In times of weakness send them Your Spirit, and help them to praise Your heavenly Father and pray for poor sinners. By the same Holy Spirit, put Your words on their lips and Your love in their hearts, to bring good news to the poor and healing to the brokenhearted.
And may the gift of Mary Your mother, to the disciple whom You love, be your gift to every priest. Grant that she who formed You in her human image may, be her intercession, help to form them in Your divine image by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
O Jesus, Eternal Priest,
Keep your priests within the shelter of Your Most Sacred Heart, where none can touch them. Keep unstained their anointed hands which daily touch Your sacred Body. Keep unsullied their lips daily tinged with Your precious Blood. Keep pure and unworldly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood. Let Your holy love surround and protect them from the world’s contagion. Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here, and their everlasting crown in eternity.
Amen.

Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary
Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests who you have given us to be our spiritual fathers. By the merits of this rosary, please grant our priests the grace to experience a deeper, more abiding and personal love for You in the Holy Eucharist. Strengthen them for the battles that lay ahead and protect them from the tempations of the evil one.
Apostles' Creed
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

The baptism of Jesus is on his part the acceptance and inauguration of his mission as God’s suffering Servant. He allows himself to be numbered among sinners; he is already “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.” Already he is anticipating the “baptism” of his bloody death. Already he is coming to “fulfill all righteousness,” that is, he is submitting himself entirely to his Father’s will: out of love he consents to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins (CCC 536).

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day."
John 6:53-54
℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.”
John 6:56-57
℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had said the blessing he broke it and gave it to the disciples. "Take it and eat," he said, "this is my body."
Matthew 3:16
℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he handed it to them saying, "Drink from this, all of you, for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."
Matthew 26:27-28
℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord.
1 Corinthians 11:26-27
℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.
1 Corinthians 11:28-29
℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Glory Be
All: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Fatima Prayer
All: Oh My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for Us O holy Mother of God,
℟. That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.
Amen.
Closing Rosary Prayer
O, God, Whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that, meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
A Holy Hour for Priests
The Divine Mercy Prayer
for Priests and Religious
Opening Prayer for Priests and Religious
Today bring to Me THE SOULS OF PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS, and immerse them in My unfathomable mercy. It was they who gave Me strength to endure My bitter Passion. Through them as through channels My mercy flows out upon mankind.
Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service,* that they may perform worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in Your vineyard—upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them with the strength of Your blessing. For the love of the Heart of Your Son in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing praise to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Amen.
O Jesus, eternal Truth, our Life,
I call upon You and I beg Your mercy for poor sinners. O sweetest Heart of my Lord, full of pity and unfathomable mercy, I plead with You for poor sinners. O Most Sacred Heart, Fount of Mercy from which gush forth rays of inconceivable graces upon the entire human race, I beg of You light for poor sinners.
O Jesus, be mindful of Your own bitter Passion and do not permit the loss of souls redeemed at so dear a price of Your most precious Blood.
O Jesus, when I consider the great price of Your Blood, I rejoice at its immensity, for one drop alone would have been enough for the salvation of all sinners. Although sin is an abyss of wickedness and ingratitude, the price paid for us can never be equaled. Therefore, let every soul trust in the Passion of the Lord, and place its hope in His mercy.
God will not deny His mercy to anyone. Heaven and earth may change, but God’s mercy will never be exhausted. Oh, what immense joy burns in my heart when I contemplate Your incomprehensible goodness, O Jesus! I desire to bring all sinners to Your feet that they may glorify Your mercy throughout endless ages.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Apostles Creed
℣. I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
℟. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

A Holy Hour for Priests
St. John Vianney's Prayer for Priests
God,
Please give to your Church today many more priests after your own heart. May they be worthy representatives of Christ the Good Shepherd. May they wholeheartedly devote themselves to prayer and penance; be examples of humility and poverty; shining models of holiness; tireless and powerful preachers of the Word of God; zealous dispensers of your grace in the sacraments. May their loving devotion to your Son Jesus in the Eucharist and to Mary his Mother be the twin fountains of fruitfulness for their ministry.
Amen.
A Holy Hour for Priests
Cardinal O'Connor's Prayer for Priests
Lord Jesus,
We your people pray to You for our priests. You have given them to us for OUR needs. We pray for them in THEIR needs. We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of your own priesthood. You have consecrated them, set them aside, anointed them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach, to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood. Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses. We know too that they are tempted to sin and discouragement as are we, needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgiven, as do we. Indeed, we thank You for choosing them from among us, so that they understand us as we understand them, suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us, share our beings, our lives, our faith. We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus: Your presence in their hearts, Your holiness in their souls, Your joy in their spirits. And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread. We pray to You, O Lord, through Mary the mother of all priests, for Your priests and for ours.
Amen.
A Holy Hour for Priests
Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel (Long)
O Glorious Prince of the heavenly host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the terrible warfare that we are waging against the principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the evil spirits. Come to the aid of man, whom Almighty God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of Satan.
Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in Heaven. That cruel, ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.
These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.
Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious power of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly find mercy in the sight of the Lord; and vanquishing the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations.
Amen.
℣. Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.
℟. The Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered, the root of David.
℣. Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.
℟. As we have hoped in Thee.
℣. O Lord, hear my prayer.
℟. And let my cry come unto Thee.
℣. Let us pray.
All: O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as supplicants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin Immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious St. Michael the Archangel, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all the other unclean spirits who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of souls.
Amen.
May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and ineffable Name of God be forever praised, blessed, adored, loved and glorified, in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.
