Freedom from addictions is possible if you can surrender to God and trust completely in Him to give you the grace to overcome habitual sin. If you have a problem with a particular sin and you can’t seem to control your urge to commit it, this prayer will help you overcome it. Remember what Christ taught us in scripture. In addition to your prayers, you must also avoid any contact with a person, place, or thing that can cause you to fall into temptation. Jesus also taught us that some sinful habits can only be broken through both prayer and fasting. If you feel you need help with your addiction, please seek spiritual direction from a priest as well as counseling.

God,
Please break the shackles of addiction that imprison me. I have fallen into this trap and cannot escape by my own strength. I humbly ask to be freed from all disordered appetites and compulsive desires, so that I can regain happiness and fulfill your plan for my life. God, please heal my wounded relationships. May I strive to be an instrument of reconciliation and mercy to those who have hurt me along the way, and may I seek heartfelt forgiveness from all those that I have offended. God, I need Your courage to honestly see my own faults and weaknesses, Your strength and wisdom to overcome them, and Your peace to put my soul at rest. Please give me the self-knowledge and strength of will needed to fight off the temptations that seek to prevent my recovery. Please, God, take away from me the taste and desire for my vices; may those things that I once craved to my detriment now become repulsive to me.
