Consecrating My Senses to the Holy Trinity. As Christians we struggle daily with temptations that are both external and internal. Use both of these Consecrating My Senses prayers to the Holy Trinity as part of your daily morning routine. If you struggle with your interior thoughts, you may also want to visit our page on Meditative Prayer for a Clear Mind where these prayers are also published.
Why do Christians Consecrate Themselves?
When Christians consecrate themselves they are declaring to God that they intend to dedicate their lives fully to him. An act of consecration is a way of saying you reject all worldly distractions and embrace a life of service and devotion to God. When you consecrate yourself to God you are presenting yourself as gift to him, a “living sacrifice”.
Consecrating My Senses
Consecration of My Exterior Senses to the Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity, One God, through the power of the Precious Blood of Jesus that was shed for my sake, I humbly ask for the grace to overcome temptations to sin through my exterior senses.
Holy Trinity, have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
Holy Trinity, please guide me in controlling my exterior senses so that I may be pure and holy in your sight. Let me perceive the outside world through the light of grace and practice temperance every day.
I consecrate my eyes to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my eyes to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sight to your will; please give me the grace to shelter my eyes from lustful images, sinful curiosity, and coveting what I see.
I consecrate my nose to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my nose to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sense of smell to your will; please give me the grace to overcome sensual temptations triggered by scents that evoke sinful habits and emotional memories from past sins.
I consecrate my ears to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my ears to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my hearing to your will; please give me the grace to reject harmful messages and conversations that taint my mind with evil ideas and lead to sin.
I consecrate my hands to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my hands to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sense of touch to your will; please give me the grace to avoid giving in to sensual urges, especially the sins of the flesh, both lustful and carnal pleasures.
I consecrate my tongue to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, One God, guide me through my tongue to glorify you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Holy Trinity, I surrender my sense of taste and speech to your will; please give me grace to abstain from overindulgence for sensual pleasure, and to speak truth in love, avoiding speech that kills.
In the Name of Jesus Christ, and through the Power of his Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, I hereby consecrate all my exterior senses to the Most Holy Trinity, so that they may be dedicated for use that is pure and holy and Glorifies God.
AMEN.
Next we will consecrate our interior senses. By developing your cogitative sense, or contemplative sense, you will grow closer to God in your interior life. Your cogitative sense is your prayer instinct, and this prayer of consecration is your way of offering your interior life to God as a “living sacrifice” for him to dwell with you. The more you practice contemplative and meditative prayer, the more connected you feel to God.
