Virtue Meditations

The virtue meditations in this category take you on a 35-week journey of mental prayers and journal entries. These meditations come to us through the work of St. Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th century nun who was widely known in her lifetime for her visions and prophesies.

These virtues come from the profound writings of Bingen’s book, “Liber Vitae Meritorum.” This book is a study of the weaknesses that are inherent in the human consciousness that separates us from God. This book studies the moral flaws in our sinful nature through 35 common vices humans struggle with and their corresponding virtues. These virtues act as the antidote to each type of evil inclination. It’s considered a handbook on how to think and act meritoriously against the urges of our lower faculties to do the contrary. She prefaces this book by explaining how God gave her the command to write down what she saw and heard during mystical visions that she experienced.

Our virtue meditations include excerpts from both of St. Hildegard von Bingen’s books, “Scivias” and “Liber Vitae Meritorum.” They will also include relevant Bible passages and excerpts from the Catechism, all related to that virtue. Each meditation will focus on Christ in some way. Every week participants contemplate one virtue and it’s corresponding vice. Each meditation ends with a call to action and encourages participants to keep a prayer journal for writing resolutions and reflective prayers from the heart to the Lord as desired. Every meditation will end with a Litany of Virtues prayer and a community prayer, asking God to help us and all other participants grow in virtue.

Let’s grow in virtue and holiness together! Join us in this 35-week mental prayer challenge.
