Prayer of Gratitude to Jesus

Pray prayers of gratitude to God and meditate on the 5 Holy Wounds of Jesus to grow in love and humility.

This prayer of Gratitude to Jesus honors the price of our salvation by meditating on his passion, death, and resurrection. Gratitude changes us because it is a virtue that encompasses both thanksgiving and grace. Through gratitude, we increase our capacity to love.

The prayer of gratitude also heals us of our sadness and gives us hope even in the face of suffering. Gratitude is powerful in times of trial, pain, illness, and loss, as we see when we meditate on the life of Job. When our love for Christ grows the grace we receive increases. Psalm 34 is another prayer of gratitude that begins with: “I will bless the LORD at all timeshis praise shall be always in my mouth.”

Gratitude to Jesus for His Passion and Death

Let us begin by contemplating the upper room after the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Christ. We can imagine the disciples locked away in hiding, fearing for what will happen to them, and not yet filled with the Holy Spirit.

This is when Jesus came. But Thomas was not there. He missed the opportunity.

Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.

So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.”

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.”

Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”

Jesus kept the wounds. Ponder this for a moment. He kept the holes in his hands and feet. He kept the wound in his Sacred Side.

By his stripes we are healed.

They are a physical reminder of the price he paid for our salvation. For eternity he will have those wounds.

Now let’s enter into the prayer of gratitude to Jesus.
