Scriptural Rosary for Priests: Pray the Luminous Mysteries

Christ instituted the priesthood on Holy Thursday. Join Him in adoration on Thursdays to pray this scriptural rosary for priests.

Pray this scriptural rosary for priests of the luminous mysteries. This rosary for priests meditates on the life and gospel message of Our Lord Jesus Christ, contemplating the sacraments of baptism, marriage, and the instituation of the holy Eucharist. This scriptural rosary for priests with the luminous mysteries has carefully selected Bible verses. These verses will help you meditate on the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan, the wedding feast at Cana, where His ministry began, the proclamation of the Gospel, the transfiguration of Christ on the mountain, and the Last Supper, all while contemplating the priesthood.

We begin this rosary with a prayer for priests, who bring us Jesus in the Eucharist every day. This is an optional opening prayer to pray for all priestly vocations. Visit our page on mental prayer and on the First Saturdays 15 minute meditation of the rosary if you’d like to learn more about how to pray this rosary more deeply.

Scriptural Rosary for Priests of the Luminous Mysteries

Prayer for Priests

by Cardinal Richard Cushing

O Almighty, Eternal God,

Look upon the face of Your Son and for love of Him,

who is the Eternal High Priest, have pity on Your priests.

Remember, O most compassionate God,

that they are but weak and frail human beings.

Stir up in them the grace of their vocation

which is in them by the imposition of the bishop’s hands.

Keep them close to You, lest the enemy prevail against them,

so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree

unworthy of their sublime vocation.

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests;

for Your unfaithful and tepid priests;

for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields;

for Your tempted priests;

for the lonely and desolate priests;

for Your young priests; for Your dying priests;

for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.

But above all, I commend to You the priests dearest to me,

the priest who baptized me,

the priests who have absolved me from sins,

the priests at whose Masses I have assisted

and who have offered me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion,

the priests who have taught and instructed me

or helped and encouraged me,

and the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.

O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart,

and bless them abundantly in time and eternity.

Amen

Scriptural Rosary of the Luminous Mysteries

Apostles Creed

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

First Luminous Mystery

first luminous mystery scriptural rosary baptism of Jesus Christ
Jesus is baptized by John in the Jordan River

The baptism of Jesus is on his part the acceptance and inauguration of his mission as God’s suffering Servant.  He allows himself to be numbered among sinners; he is already “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.”  Already he is anticipating the “baptism” of his bloody death.  Already he is coming to “fulfill all righteousness,” that is, he is submitting himself entirely to his Father’s will: out of  love he consents to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins (CCC 536).

Our Father

℣. Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

℟. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

John the Baptist said: "I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, Make straight the way of the Lord."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

John said, "I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

"I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

John tried to prevent him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?"

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Jesus said to him in reply, "Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened, and saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

At once the Spirit drove him out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan.

Jesus’ First Miracle at the Wedding Feast of Cana

 The sign of water turned to wine at Cana already announces the Hour of Jesus’ glorification.  It makes manifest the fulfillment of the wedding feast in the Father’s kingdom, where the faithful will drink the new wine that has become the Blood of Christ. (CCC 1335).

Fourth Luminous Mystery

fourth luminous mystery the transfiguration of Christ scriptural rosary
The Transfiguration

The Transfiguration gives us a foretaste of Christ’s glorious coming, when he “will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body.”  But it also recalls that “it is through many persecutions that we must enter the kingdom of God” (CCC 556).

Our Father

Amen.

Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of Jesus' exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.

Fifth Luminous Mystery

fifth luminous mystery the institution of the holy Eucharist scriptural rosary
The Institution of the Holy Eucharist

In order to leave them a pledge of this love, in order never to depart from his own and to make them sharers in his Passover, he instituted the Eucharist as the memorial of his death and Resurrection, and commanded his apostles to celebrate it until his return…. (CCC 1337).

Our Father

Amen.

Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

So they said to him, "Sir, give us this bread always." Jesus said to them "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

"Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

"This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.”

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had said the blessing he broke it and gave it to the disciples. "Take it and eat," he said, "this is my body."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he handed it to them saying, "Drink from this, all of you, for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.

℣. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

℟. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Glory Be
